Born in 1950 in Poznań. A graduate of the Karol Marcinkowski Gymnasium in Poznań. He graduated with distinction from the AMU Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences (1973) and received a Ph.D. with honours in the field of natural sciences, in the animal physiology (1980). In 1994 he received a postdoctoral degree in biology and Prime Minister’s Award for Outstanding dissertation. He held the position of Vice-Dean (1996-2002) and Dean (2002-2008) of the AMU Faculty of Biology and was Vice-Rector of Adam Mickiewicz University in the period from 2008 to 2016. Since 2003 – Chair of Cell Biology. The editor-in-chief of international scientific journals Folia Malacologica and Biological Letters. Author and co-author of 235 publications. He is the Rector of Adam Mickiewicz University since the 4th of April 2016.
